
Child trafficking has been one of the most gruesome kinds of exploitation ever witnessed by the humankind. Little before children recognize their role in the societal system they face severe exploitation in the hands of family members, neighbors, and outsiders.
According to the reports by UNICEF, The nature and scope of trafficking range from industrial and domestic labour, to forced early marriages and commercial sexual exploitation. Existing studies show that over 40 per cent of women sex workers enter into prostitution before the age of 18 years. Moreover, for children who have been trafficked and rescued, opportunities for healing remain scarce and reintegration process grueling
India has turned into a source, transit point and destination for traffickers of women and children for sexual and non-sexual purposes. The areas of the greatest concern are the poverty stricken areas such as Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Orissa and West Bengal. Of the total numbers only 10 % of human trafficking in India is international, while almost 90 % is interstate
Though there exists anti-trafficking legalities but much of them do not cover the children. Therefore the victims endure regular sessions of torture and the culprits run scot-free. .The reasons are many to in fuel why trafficking as a phenomenon takes place but the majority of them happen due to economic deprivation, low-levels of education and awareness and lack of employment opportunities.
